PEN Belarus presents its latest research at the International Congress of Belarusian Studies

The International Congress of Belarusian Studies took place on September 22-24 in Gdansk. One of the most important objectives of the Congress is to prompt the effective integration of researchers and experts in political, social, and humanitarian sciences. The Congress contributes to a better understanding of Belarus in academic and public spheres in regional and global contexts.

Tatsiana Nіadbaj, Belarusian PEN Center President, writer, and human rights activist, presented our monitoring report of human rights violations in the sphere of culture (Section 3. Society and social institutions. Panel 3.1. Civil society studies). She also presented our latest research, “The cultural sector in Belarus in 2022 – 2023. Repressions. Trends”. Tatsiana described the methodology, outlined common trends, and discussed with the Congress participants the importance and necessity of monitoring and documenting violations.

Many thanks to the International Congress of Belarusian Studies organizing committee for the opportunity to participate and for the productive weekend.
