Nadzieja Staravojtava – writer, candidate of philological sciences, associate professor of the Department of Belarusian and Russian Languages of the Belarusian State Economic University, medievalist, popularizer of the Belarusian language, author of the novel "Orthography without rules" (2008), short stories, essays and poems.

She researched the Belarusian Triščaniana – translations of the world-famous medieval legend about the love of Tryščan and Ižota (Tristan and Isolde) into Belarusian. She also taught Belarusian language to Belarusian and foreign students.

Author of numerous articles on translations from and into the Belarusian language, as well as on the methodology of teaching Belarusian as a foreign language. She was detained on July 24, 2023.

On September 1, 2023, she was recognized as a political prisoner.

On October 31, the Frunzienski District Court in Minsk issued a decision in the criminal case initiated on the basis of Part 1 of Art. 342 of the Criminal Code (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them) against teachers Natalla Sivickaja, Nadzieja Staravojtavaja and manager of the student dormitory Alena Drabudźka. Nadzieja Staravojtavaja and Natalla Sivickaja were sentenced to 3 years of house arrest and Alena Drabudźka to 2.5 years of house arrest.
