Statement from PEN Belarus in solidarity with the people of Ukraine

Statement from PEN Belarus in solidarity with the people of Ukraine
On February 24, Russian forces launched an invasion of Ukraine. They are attacking Ukrainian cities with rockets, shelling and explosions, with troops coming also from the territory of Belarus. This is a declaration of war not only on Ukraine but on the whole civilized world.

PEN Belarus

  • strongly protests against Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, as well as against using Belarus as an ally in these violent attacks (Belarus is not Russia. Belarusians are against war);
  • demands the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops, both from the territory of Ukraine (including the occupied territories of the so-called DNR and LNR, as well as from Crimea) and from the territory of Belarus.
  • expresses unconditional solidarity with the Ukrainian people and admires the courage of Ukrainians and their willingness to defend their independence and their country.

Today our heart is with Ukraine and Ukrainians.

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!
