A member of PEN Belarus, the Union of Belarusian Writers, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ), and an honorary member of the Lithuanian PEN.

In 1994, Alaksandr Fiaduta used to be a part of Lukashenka’s team, as he worked in the president’s administration, from where he resigned in protest after the appearance of censorship in the press. During the 2010 elections, Alaksandr Fiaduta worked in the campaign headquarters of the presidential candidate poet Uładzimir Niaklajeŭ. After a violent dispersal of a peaceful march, Fiaduta was arrested on December 20, 2010, and placed in the KGB pre-trial detention center. He was recognized as a political prisoner.

Author of the books: American Poetry (2012), My Little Paris (2014). He is the author of Lukashenka’s political biography, published by Referendum (a Russian publishing house) in 2005). The author of the translation of the memoirs by poet Antoni Edvard Adyniec (2020).

In 2010-2011, in the KGB Pre-trial Detention Center (Amerikanka), he wrote a book American Poetry, for which he became a laureate of the Aleś Adamovič Prize, given by PEN Belarus.

On April 12, 2021, Alaksandr Fiaduta stopped communicating. On April 13, it turned out that he had been arrested in Moscow by the KGB of Belarus due to “suspicion of committing a crime” (Art. 108 of the CCP).

The state news agency reported the fact of the detention with reference to the KGB.

A criminal case has been initiated against Alaksandr Fiaduta under part 1 of Article 357 (conspiracy or other actions committed with the aim of seizing state power).

On April 20, 2022, he was recognized as a political prisoner.

At the beginning of May 2022, he was transferred from Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 to the KGB one. There, he became acquainted with the case material. At the end of May, Alaksandr was transferred back to Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1.

On June 9, 2022, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the case “on conspiracy to seize state power” was sent to court.

On September 5, the Minsk Regional Court, at an open session, handed down verdicts in the criminal case “on conspiracy to seize state power”. Alaksandr Fiaduta was one of the convicted. He was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in a medium-security colony under Art. 357 of the Criminal Code (conspiracy to seize power by unconstitutional means). During the trial, Alaksandr Fiaduta partially admitted his guilt but did not agree with the motives stated in the accusation.

Fiaduta has been on the list of “extremists” since 9, 2022.
