Born on March 21, 1987.
Arrested on November 4, 2022, and taken to prison in Hrodna.
He is accused of violating Art. 342 of the Criminal Code (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order or active participation in them).
The head of the Janushkevic publishing house, commented on the arrest of Siarhiej Makarevič: “Our excellent partner and loyal associate Siarhiej Makarevič was arrested. Our books are his merit, especially the Nobel series “Noblesse Oblige”. The activity of the publishing house was based on him, in general, it is with such people, of whom there are few, that great and respectable things are done.”
the Viartannie Charity Foundation contributed to the development of Belarusian culture, science and education. On October 25, by the decision of the Minsk City Court, the organization was liquidated.
Siarhiej Makarevič was recognized as a political prisoner on November 30, 2022.
On April 11, 2023, Siarhiej Makarevič was released from prison after his sentence was amended. Siarhiej Makarevič announced this on his Facebook page: “On April 11, my restraining order was changed. After 159 days behind bars, I was released. The criminal cases against me have not been closed, so this is not the end of it.”
On March 25, 2024, the Hrodna Regional Court sentenced Siarhiej Makarevič to 2 years of restriction of liberty with a referral to an open-type correctional facility according to Art. 361-2 of the Criminal Code (financing the activities of an extremist group).
