Since 2000, he has been the deputy editor-in-chief Nasha Niva<\/em>. From 2006 to 2017, he was the editor-in-chief of the newspaper.<\/p>\n

In 2006, he was elected deputy chairman of PEN Belarus. He left the Belarusian PEN in 2019.<\/p>\n

On July 8, 2021, Andrej Skurko was arrested along with three journalists from Nasha Niva<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Later, the investigators released the accountant Volha Rakovi\u010d and the editor-in-chief of the magazine Nasha Historyja<\/em> Andrej Dy\u0144ko. Andrej Skurko and chief editor of Nasha Niva<\/em> Jahor Marcinovi\u010d remained behind bars.<\/p>\n

Initially, he was a suspect under Art. 342 of the Criminal Code (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order or active participation in them). At the end of three days of arrest, he was not charged with preparing protests, but the detention was extended on the basis of part 2 of Art. 216 of the Criminal Code (infliction of property damage without signs of theft).<\/p>\n

On July 2, 2021, he was recognized as a political prisoner.<\/p>\n

On July 21, he was transferred to Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 in Minsk.<\/p>\n

In prison, he wrote four children’s books of poetry.<\/p>\n

On March 15, 2022, the Zavodskoy District Court in Minsk handed down sentences to the editor-in-chief of Nasha Niva<\/em> Jahor Marcinovi\u010d and the head of the marketing and advertising department Andrej Skurko. The court found them guilty under part 2 of Art. 216 of the Criminal Code. Court decision: Jahor Marcinovi\u010d \u2013 2.5 years of imprisonment in a low-security penal colony, Andrej Skurko \u2013 2.5 years of imprisonment in a low-security penal colony.<\/p>\n

On May 20, 2022, the Minsk City Court considered the appeal against the verdict and rejected it.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of June 2022, Andrej was transferred from Prison No. 4 to Mahilo\u016d PC No. 15.<\/p>\n
