The reason for the accusation was that, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Andrej Alaksandra\u016d paid for 250 of the fines received by participants of peaceful protests from August 22 to November 9, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>On June 30, 2021, Andrej Alaksandra\u016d was charged with violating part 1 of Art. 356 (treason of the state).<\/p>\n<p>On April 4, 2022, it became known that the criminal case against Andrej Alaksandra\u016d, Iryna Z\u0142obina, D\u017amitryj Nava\u017ey\u0142a\u016d and was sent to the court. Andrej Alaksandra\u016d was charged under a number of articles of the Criminal Code:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Part 2 of Art. 342 (organization of group actions that grossly violate public order and preparation or training of such activities);<\/li>\n<li>Part 1 of Art. 356 (treason of the state);<\/li>\n<li>Part 1 of Art. 361-1 (participation in an extremist organization);<\/li>\n<li>Part 2 of Art. 243 (evasion of taxes and duties).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On January 18, 2021, he was recognized as a political prisoner.<\/p>\n<p>The trial on the BelaPAN case began on June 6, 2022, and lasted exactly four months. On October 6, the Minsk Regional Court handed down verdicts: journalist and media manager Andrej Alaksandra\u016d was sentenced to 14 years of imprisonment. In addition, large fines were imposed on political prisoners; for Alaksandra\u016d it is 32 000 rubles (approx. $12675). They are also prohibited from holding certain positions for five years.<\/p>\n<p>From January 20, 2023 \u2013 on the list of &#8220;extremists.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Creative activity:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Member of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ).<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Ukrainian band Kolir released a track in Belarusian track <em>Zastacca saboj<\/em> (Staying yourself) based on Andrej Alaksandra\u016d\u2019s poem. In 2015, the organizing committee of the Sing 2.0 contest awarded the band for the song in the Sung poetry category.<\/p>\n<p>Andrej Alaksandra\u016d created Belarusian Journal \u2013 an online publication aimed at intellectuals, where he planned to develop free and independent Belarusian thought, to bring together different ideas, views, and opinions, sometimes completely opposite.
