Valiaryna Kustava<\/b>, Belarusian journalist and poet, has <\/span>fled<\/a> the country\u00a0<\/span><\/i>after two criminal cases had been launched against her. <\/span><\/p>\n

Ihar Jarmo\u0142a\u016d<\/b><\/a> [Ihar Yarmolau], <\/span>director of Dance Cafe studio, <\/span>Mika\u0142aj Sasie\u016d<\/b><\/a> [Mikalai Saseu],<\/span>\u00a0a choreographer, and <\/span>U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Karecki<\/a><\/strong> [Uladzislau Karetski],\u00a0<\/span>film maker \u2013 all volunteers of Viktar Babaryka’s campaign headquarters \u2013 have been sentenced to 5 years in a medium-security penal colony. <\/span><\/p>\n

Siarhiej Vieramiajuk<\/b> [Siarhei Veramyayuk], a musician<\/a><\/span>\u00a0and Belarusian State Technical University student, was detained on June 14 before defending his thesis. He was sentenced to 15 days of administrative arrest. <\/span><\/p>\n

Kastu\u015b \u0160ytal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On June 17, the house of <\/span>Kastu\u015b \u0160ytal<\/b> [Kastus Shytal] was searched<\/a> as part of the criminal case opened over insulting three policemen working at Dok\u0161ycy police department.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Members of the <\/span>Union of Poles in Belarus<\/b> continue being summoned for interrogations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alina Birukova<\/b>, a photo artist from Homel, was detained on June 16, on allegations of having participated in the protest rally on September 20, 2020, based on the photo in which Alina didn\u2019t even find herself. <\/span><\/p>\n

Pavel Honca<\/b> [Gontsa], leader of the UNIA choir, was detained on June 16 at his workplace at the Philharmonic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aksana Zareckaja<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Aksana Zareckaja<\/b> [Zaretskaya], an etiquette coach and a member of the Coordination Council, was detained on June 16 while watching the online version of the play White Rabbit, Red Rabbit, in which she made her debut as an actress. The other audience members invited by Aksana to watch along were detained too, they\u2019ve received 15 days of administrative arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Andrej Alaksandra\u016d<\/b> is staying in pre-trial prison till at least July 12. <\/span><\/p>\n

Valadar Curpana\u016d<\/b> [Tsurpanau] was punished by solitary confinement in Mahilou prison No. 4 twice for asking the prison guards to speak in Belarusian with him.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kinemo<\/b>, an open air festival of silent films and contemporary music, has been cancelled in Hrodna. The Museum of the History of Religion refused to provide a venue for the festival without explanation.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Brest, a cultural platform <\/span>Hrunt Buduchyni<\/b> and cultural space <\/span>Kryly Halopa<\/b> have been closed by the government.<\/span><\/p>\n

Natalla Akinina<\/b>, a soloist of the National Opera and Ballet Theater, resigned from the theater, as “the management of the theater insisted on that”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yury Stu\u0142a\u016d<\/b>, the legendary professor at the Minsk State Linguistic University who in the fall of 2020 supported the students, got dismissed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gymnasium-College of Arts in Ma\u0142adzie\u010dna didn\u2019t extend the contract with the Belarusian speaking teacher of physical training <\/span>Marharyta Sobal<\/b> who has a vivid political stance. <\/span><\/p>\n

A criminal case for \u2018mockery at the state flag of Belarus\u2019 has been filed against <\/span>Marharyta La\u016d\u010duk<\/b> [Marharyta Liauchuk], an opera singer now living in Lithuania. For this in Belarus, she could face up to two years of correctional labour, arrest or up to one year in prison.<\/span><\/p>\n

Belarusian libraries have been urged to dispose of the two books by Viktar Lachar<\/b> containing the history and illustrations of Belarusian symbols. <\/span><\/p>\n

Volha Veramejenka<\/b>, the owner of the Admietna\u015b\u0107 store, was fined 770 EUR for T-shirts with the image of Pahonia, a bell and a banner.<\/span><\/p>\n

Detentions and punishments for anything of white and red colors and with the national symbols continue.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jula \u010carnia\u016dskaja<\/b> [Yuliya Charnyauskaya], a Belarusian cultural studies scholar and the widow of popular Belarusian news portal TUT.BY founder Yury Zisser, managed to <\/span>pass a message<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u00a0to her friends and family with the help of her defence lawyer. Jula\u2019s daughter created a Facebook page<\/a> where she\u2019ll be posting on behalf of her mother.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cComparing my situation to that of imprisoned persons, whose decency I never doubted, I do realise that I am very lucky. I pray for them \u2013 that is what I can do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ihar Bancar<\/b>, an activist and musician from\u00a0 Hrodna, sentenced to 1.6 years in open-air prison for a performance, had to leave for the open correctional facility in Viciebsk on June 17.<\/span><\/p>\n

Andrzej Poczobut<\/b>, a journalist imprisoned for the case of the Union of Poles in Belarus, through Covid-19 has been feeling fatigued, he has a cough and passes out; he has heart issues.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\nPoczobut is now kept in a crowded cell with 13 people. It’s stuffy, there’s not enough air and there are lice. As an exception, the prison administration allows him to lie on the bunks for 2 hours a day, the rest of the day he has to either stand or walk.

Maxim Znak<\/b>, a lawyer, poet, writer and musician, told in his first interview from behind bars that he had not seen darkness for 9 months. Whenever possible, he exercises, writes a novel and keeps optimistic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alhierd Bacharevi\u010d<\/b> has published two new books: a Theatre of Happy Children and Victory Square. <\/span><\/p>\n
