The Investigative Committee explained this by \u201cthe criminal investigation under Art. 342 (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them) of the Criminal Code of Belarus.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5728\" style=\"width: 340px\"  class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5728 size-gallery-thumbnails-small\" src=\"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1_ignat-sidorchyk-340x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"240\" \/ loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ihnat Sidor\u010dyk<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Ihnat Sidor\u010dyk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, poet, director and actor, political prisoner who had been in prison since August 10, charged under Part 1 of Art. 342 (organization of group actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them) was released from the courtroom! He was sentenced to 3 years of suspended imprisonment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Kry\u015bcina Pa\u0142taviec<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, an artist who painted storks and &#8220;Long live Belarus&#8221; at various sites in Skidziel and the district, and <\/span><b>Andrej Apanasovi\u010d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, who sometimes gave her a lift, were <a href=\"https:\/\/spring96.org\/be\/news\/101971\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">found<\/a> guilty of &#8220;desecrating buildings and damaging property&#8221; and fined 150 [1390 EUR] and 100 [926 EUR] basic units respectively. Kry\u015bcina&#8217;s bicycle was confiscated as &#8220;a means by which a crime was committed.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n\n<figure id=\"attachment_5729\" style=\"width: 340px\"  class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5729 size-gallery-thumbnails-small\" src=\"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/1_igar-banczar-340x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"240\" \/ loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ihar Bancar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Ihar Bancar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, leader of the Hrodna street-punk band Mister X, public and cultural activist, has been in prison since October 20 charged under Article 339 of the Criminal Code (Hooliganism). He has been in solitary confinement since February 5, and his family is worried about his health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Pavie\u0142 Sieviaryniec<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the writer, politician, prisoner of consciousness, has been remanded in custody for another 2 months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Miko\u0142a Papieka<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a poet and beekeeper, had his status changed from a suspect to a defendant in the &#8220;Karahod case&#8221; in Brest.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\"><b>Pressure, Dismissal, Ban<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5731\" style=\"width: 340px\"  class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5731 size-gallery-thumbnails-small\" src=\"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/2_bar-trete-mesto-340x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"240\" \/ loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Third Place<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hrodna-based bar and art space <\/span><b>Third Place<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which participated in the nationwide strike, were forced to close on February 16: the city authorities demanded that the owner terminate the contract with the tenants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In Polack, weekly guided tours for locals and visitors of the town, \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">take place <a href=\"https:\/\/viciebskspring.org\/news\/kulturnyja-pravy\/item\/3900-pad-kanvoem-militsyi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">under<\/a> police surveillance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Anton Hry\u0161kievi\u010d<\/b>, director and professor of the Viciebsk State College of Culture and Arts, who joined the nationwide strike on January 25, was fired.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<figure id=\"attachment_5732\" style=\"width: 340px\"  class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5732 size-gallery-thumbnails-small\" src=\"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/2_tamara-vyarshyczkaya-340x240.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"240\" \/ loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tamara Viar\u0161yckaja<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Tamara Viar\u0161yckaja, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">founder of the Museum of the Jewish Resistance in Navahrudak and co-founder of the Navahrudak Museum of Local History, has her contract <a href=\"https:\/\/svabod1.azureedge.net\/a\/31109522.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">not extended<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Also in early April, the contract of the museum&#8217;s senior researcher <\/span><b>Halina Kaval\u010duk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is not extended. The women believe that the reason for the dismissal was the guided tours they organized on Sundays and which were visited by individuals convicted under Article 23.34.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Volha Siem\u010danka<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, who worked at the Mahilo\u016d Drama Theatre, was fired on 18 February. While in 1999 74% of all Belarusians called Belarusian their mother tongue, 10 years later only 53%, 20% less. This is an absolutely unheard of, unprecedented perhaps for the whole world, decline, a radical change in consciousness not even over a generation, but half a generation or a third of a generation. So it\u2019s unusual for people to change their language consciousness and language behavior.
