He\u2019s been accused under Art. 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (organization of group actions, grossly violating public order and involving obvious disobedience to the legitimate demands of the authorities; punished with a fine, or arrest, or restriction of liberty for a term of up to three years, or imprisonment for the same term). <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He pleaded not guilty and demanded all the documents of his case to be translated into Belarusian. For the interrogation, a translator into Belarusian was invited as no officer spoke Belarusian.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Ya\u016dhen<\/b> <b>Atcecki<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, detained on Sunday, November 17, during the march in memory of Raman Bandarenka, was fined 20 basic units (175 Euro) on December 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Dzianis Filipenka<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, vocalist of the band Rahis, was sentenced to 13 days in jail but he is waiting to serve the term, as there are no places. <\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4611\" style=\"width: 226px\"  class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4611\" src=\"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/zmiczer-vajnruski-340x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"226\" height=\"159\" \/ loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Zmicier Vajno\u016dski<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Zmicier Vajno\u016dski<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an advertising expert, photographer, public figure, and partner of PEN Belarus, was detained on November 30, and on December 1 sentenced to 13 days of administrative arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>U\u0142adzimir Miraniuk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a musician and head of the Chata44 recording studio from Brest, was detained on November 25, and since then has been kept in the remand prison.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Aliaksej San\u010duk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a drummer from the band \u201cTrebujem Razojtis\u201d, detained on November 4 at a rehearsal spot together with the drummers who used to set the rhythm at the Minsk protest marches, wasn\u2019t released after 15 days of administrative arrest. A criminal case has been instituted against him under Part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Belarus. The security officials believe that he was the administrator of a chat for several people and &#8220;organized actions aimed at gross violation of public order.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Detained on December 6:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Uladzimir Liankievi\u010d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a poet, musician, member of PEN Belarus,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> received 15 days of administrative arrest<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He was detained back in September and spent 6 days in jail.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4601\" style=\"width: 222px\"  class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4601\" src=\"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/alyaksej-saprykin-e1607425016490-340x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"222\" height=\"157\" \/ loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Aliaksej Saprykin<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Aliaksej Saprykin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an actor at Belarus Free Theatre, activist, partner of Belarus PEN Center (for two years in a raw he was the host at the ceremonies of Carlos Sherman Award for the best literary book translation into Belarusian)<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p><b>Mikita Ku\u017amin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, percussionist of the band Botanic Project, was sentenced to 10 days\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Valeryja Hrabliuk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a violinist, received 13 days of administrative arrest<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Siarhej Smirno\u016d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, leader of the Cross B Band, was sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>Pressure and Dismissal<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Roberto Valdes Casanuevo <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a graphic designer from Cuba who has lived in Belarus for almost 30 years, having a family and three children here. He was detained during the peaceful march on November 8, and is currently in the process of deportation because his residence permit was not extended due to his active civil position. Roberto is a former member of the Union of Designers, and the union sent a petition and reference in his support.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Julia Savi\u010d, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who worked at the Academy of Arts for twenty years, has her contract not extended. Her colleagues believe that this happened solely through her civil position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-gallery-thumbnails-small wp-image-4640\" src=\"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/yulya-charnyauskaya-340x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"240\" \/ loading=\"lazy\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Julia \u010carnia\u016dskaja, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a well-known culturologist, professor, writer, and journalist, member of the Coordination Council, resigned from Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI stayed for a long time, but the degree of the necessary compromises between the profession and the obligation is growing every day. There are people who can handle this for a variety of purposes: vocation or soft-job; career advancement or, conversely, a comfortable rest of time before retiring; for the sake of \u201cstability\u201d or for the sake of an ideal \u2013 to do at least something good from within by educating students. There are other aspirations of all kinds. The police came to the store the day before to check what a white-red-white flag\u00a0 was doing at the entrance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><i>Cudo\u016dnnia<\/i> is an important cultural platform of the city, where one could buy products of Belarusian masters, books and souvenirs.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>Cultural Resistance<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Belarusian band<b> Intelligency<\/b> created an acoustic live to the son ZLO (evil) together with the free Kupalaucy (the collective of Janka Kupala theatre, about 60 persons, who quit as a protest back in August). <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pez3RP9UmBQ?feature=youtu\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mahile\u016d-based project<\/span><b> MNOY<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> presented <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MdRgxWX6Yt0&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">a video to the single \u201c\u0412\u0435\u0440\u0442\u0430\u043b\u0451\u0442\u201d (Helicopter)<\/a> \u2013\u00a0 about the tortures and hopes of the Belarusian people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The people looking to the sky with sorrow,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">waiting for when the helicopter crashes\u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The employees of <\/span><b>Mahile\u016d Drama Theatre<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> created a video letter to their ex-director <\/span><b>Andrej Novika\u016d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fired last week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou can lay off a person, but his work, if it is really good and needed, will live. And we promise: we will save our theater, which is our home, and will wait for your return!\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sSlYRFse36w?feature=youtu\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><b>Laudans band, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">whose participants Andrej Luhin and Alena Pala\u010danskaja were arrested on October 19, after having performed in a Minks neighbourhood, and sentenced to 15 days of administrative arrest,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bOYRCwTxhNs&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;fbclid=IwAR3YF0RqG8f3GZCbThkZYm2cqm_m8dV420FRtgXCs1mfDCc1mGZnJ2tfozU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"> wrote a song and created a video<\/a> featuring sketches by an artist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/na_yawu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">@na_yawu<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0to support all those who\u2019ve gone through this experience.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On December 5, the Belarusian Cultural Solidarity Foundation organized an <\/span><b>online screening of the play &#8220;From the Life of Fossils&#8221;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in support of the staff of the <\/span><b>New Drama Theater<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> whose troupe joined the nationwide strike, for which the theater administration filed a lawsuit that declared the strike illegal. As a result, 11 actors and three employees quit, two of them &#8211; under pressure from the administration of the theater.
