{"id":11658,"date":"2025-07-01T12:46:55","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T12:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/?p=11658"},"modified":"2025-08-03T16:23:23","modified_gmt":"2025-08-03T16:23:23","slug":"syargej-makarevich","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/en\/2025\/07\/01\/syargej-makarevich.html","title":{"rendered":"Siarhiej Makarevi\u010d (released in early July 2025)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><strong>Political persecution:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p class=\"p3\">Arrested on November 4, 2022, and taken to prison in Hrodna.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">He is accused of violating Art. 342 of the Criminal Code (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order or active participation in them).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The head of the Janushkevic publishing house, commented on the arrest of Siarhiej Makarevi\u010d: &#8220;Our excellent partner and loyal associate Siarhiej Makarevi\u010d was arrested. Our books are his merit, especially the Nobel series &#8220;Noblesse Oblige&#8221;. The activity of the publishing house was based on him, in general, it is with such people, of whom there are few, that great and respectable things are done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">the Viartannie Charity Foundation contributed to the development of Belarusian culture, science and education. On October 25, by the decision of the Minsk City Court, the organization was liquidated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Siarhiej Makarevi\u010d was recognized as a political prisoner on November 30, 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">On April 11, 2023, Siarhiej Makarevi\u010d was released from prison after his sentence was amended. Siarhiej Makarevi\u010d announced this on his Facebook page: &#8220;On April 11, my restraining order was changed. After 159 days behind bars, I was released.
