{"id":10810,"date":"2022-06-09T10:53:28","date_gmt":"2022-06-09T10:53:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/?p=10810"},"modified":"2024-02-22T14:25:14","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T14:25:14","slug":"zayava-pravaabaronczau-belarusi-ab-pryznanni-7-novyh-palitvyaznyau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/en\/2022\/06\/09\/zayava-pravaabaronczau-belarusi-ab-pryznanni-7-novyh-palitvyaznyau.html","title":{"rendered":"Seven more political prisoners in Belarus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s6\">In response to an increase in the number of cases of conviction and imprisonment of individuals under a number of defamatory articles of the Criminal Code, as well as for insulting state symbols of the Republic of Belarus, and other actions aimed at the lawful exercising of freedom of expression we, representatives of the Belarusian human rights community demand to put the end to the persecution for legitimate expression of views and, reaffirming our repeated calls to decriminalize defamation and to refrain from imposing terms of imprisonment for insulting officials, the state, government agencies and symbols (as mentioned in the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/spring96.org\/en\/news\/101054\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span class=\"s7\">Joint statement of December 22, 2020<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s6\">),\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s8\">note the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"s6\">At the moment we know about the following persons imprisoned for insulting Mr. Aliaksandr Lukashenka, police officers, judges, as well as insulting state symbols:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span class=\"s8\"><strong>Mr. Siarhei Indziukou<\/strong>, <\/span><span class=\"s6\">sentenced to 2 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a penal colony under Article 368 of the Criminal Code for insulting Mr. Aliaksandr Lukashenka, under Article 369 of the Criminal Code for insulting a government official, and under Part 3 of Article 203-1 for Illegal actions with respect to information about private life and personal data;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s6\"><strong>Mr. Pavel Bialianau<\/strong>, taken into custody under Article 368 of the Criminal Code for insulting Mr. Aliaksandr Lukashenka;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s6\"><strong>Mr. Andrei Shulhat<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"s8\">, <\/span><span class=\"s6\">taken into custody under Article 369 and 130 of the Criminal Code in the \u2018Zeltser case\u2019;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s6\"><strong>Mr. Maksim Pliatniou<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"s8\">,<\/span><span class=\"s6\"> taken into custody under Article 341 of the Criminal Code for protest graffiti;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s6\"><strong>Mr. Yauhen Merunko<\/strong>, sentenced to 24 months of restricted freedom in an open-type penitentiary under<\/span> <span class=\"s6\">Part 1 of<\/span> <span class=\"s6\">Article 368 of the Criminal Code for insulting Mr. Aliaksandr Lukashenka, sent to serve his sentence;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s6\"><strong>Mr. Yahor Bahdzevich<\/strong>, sentenced to 24 months of restricted freedom in an open-type penitentiary under<\/span> <span class=\"s6\">Part 1 of<\/span> <span class=\"s6\">Article 368 of the Criminal Code for insulting Mr. Aliaksandr Lukashenka, sent to serve his sentence;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s6\"><strong>Mr. Mikhail Zarankou<\/strong>, sentenced to 24 months of restricted freedom in an open-type penitentiary under<\/span> <span class=\"s6\">Article 369 of the Criminal Code for insulting a government official;
