{"id":10328,"date":"2022-03-18T15:13:09","date_gmt":"2022-03-18T15:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/?p=10328"},"modified":"2022-03-18T15:17:09","modified_gmt":"2022-03-18T15:17:09","slug":"naviny-ukrainskaga-pena-15-sakavika","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/en\/2022\/03\/18\/naviny-ukrainskaga-pena-15-sakavika.html","title":{"rendered":"Newsletter of PEN Ukraine (March 15 )"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>What\u2019s going on?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Russians continue shelling the civilian population using prohibited <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ombudsman.gov.ua\/en\/news_details\/upovnovazhenij-rashistski-zbrojni-sili-obstrilyuyut-mirni-mista-zaboronenimi-fosfornimi-bombami\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">phosphorous bombs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on peaceful Ukrainian cities. Since the beginning of war Russia has launched more than <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2022\/03\/15\/pentagon-most-of-russia-s-military-offensives-remain-stalled\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">900 missiles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The number of victims is so great that citizens bury civilian victims in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-60729206\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mass graves<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Occupants continue destroying Ukrainian cultural sites. On 12 March, they damaged <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nWkFbbwmej8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Korolenko Kharkiv State Scientific Library<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one of the largest libraries in Ukraine and Europe. On 13 March, Russians robbed and smashed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/zaxid.net\/rosiyani_pograbuvali_i_roztroshhili_muzey_zapovidnik_sadiba_popova_na_zaporizhzhi_n1538288\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Popov\u2019s Manor House<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Zaporizhzhya region, the biggest castle in Eastern Ukraine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In temporary occupied areas occupants are imposing a regime of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/avalaina\/status\/1503316139081969664\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">terror<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and censorship, attempting to install a Russian-controlled military-civilian administrations. On 10 March, in occupied Melitopol (Zaporizhzhya region), Russians kidnapped director of the Melitopol City Museum of Local Lore and member of regional council <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/3\/12\/russia-ukraine-crimean-tatars-dissent-repression\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leila Ibragimova<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. On 12 March, Melitopol mayor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/khpg.org\/en\/1608810181\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ivan Fedorov<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was abducted by Russian soldiers with a bag over his head. The same day <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rubryka.com\/en\/2022\/03\/12\/u-melitopoli-vykraly-koordynatorku-protestiv-aktyvisty\/amp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Olha Haisumova<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the coordinator of the daily protests against the Russian invasion in Melitopol, was kidnapped from the protest. In occupied Kakhovka (Kherson region) journalist <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/europeanjournalists.org\/blog\/2022\/03\/13\/ukraine-journalist-missing-in-kherson-region\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oleg Baturin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> disappeared on 12 March. There are legitimate fears that he has been abducted by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/khpg.org\/en\/1608810185\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Russian occupants<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. On 13 March, Russians abducted the mayor of Dniprorudne (Zaporizhzhya region) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/europe\/russia-ukraine-mayor-kidnapped-abducted-b2034804.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yevhen Matveyev<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>PEN Ukraine webpage on war<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PEN Ukraine launched <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pen.org.ua\/en\/pen-zapustyv-storinku-z-aktualnoyu-informatsiyeyu-ta-materialamy-pro-vijnu-rosiyi-proty-ukrayiny\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noindex noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the latest news and materials on Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine with information on the situation in Ukraine, links on important materials and information resources, petitions, addresses, the list of editions about Ukraine to read in English, and books by Ukrainian authors recommended for translation.
