style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>PEN Belarus defends the freedom of expression and cultural development<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><b>PEN Belarus operates in two key areas: creativeness and human rights.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The former is represented mainly by literary prizes (Ale\u015b Adamovi\u010d Award, Franci\u0161ak Bahu\u0161evi\u010d Award, Jerzy Giedroy\u0107 Literary Award, Natallia Arsie\u0144nieva Award, Carlos Sherman Award, Maksim<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Bahdanovi\u010d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Debut Award, Michal Aniempadysta\u016d Award, and other), Audiotheque, festivals, creative residencies and educational projects (e.g. translation workshops), providing creators with opportunities to fulfill their potential and create spaces for cultural development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of its human rights activities, PEN Belarus monitors the situation in the cultural sphere, issues biweekly <a href=\"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/en\/tag\/chronicle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">chronicles<\/a> reflecting rights violations in this matter, and produces <a href=\"https:\/\/penbelarus.org\/en\/tag\/penanalytics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">analytical reports<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PEN Belarus also provides support to the repressed cultural activists in Belarus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PEN Belarus was banned in Belarus by a Supreme Court decision on August 9, 2021, the anniversary of the presidential election. From 2020 to 2022 we had to cope with the Ministry of Justice\u2019s inspections and searches, liquidation, and the relocation of our headquarters to Warsaw.
